ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s mission is to develop strategies that help make Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs. To grow and strengthen Tennessee, the department seeks to attract new corporate investment to the state and works with Tennessee companies to facilitate expansion and economic growth. The Business Development Consultant will contribute to the department’s efforts of receiving commitments from existing businesses to create new jobs and invest private capital. They will work with state and local officials to help each company find the perfect location for their business in Tennessee. This position requires a great deal of determination, strong communication skills, an attention to detail, an ability to work with various stakeholders, and a positive team orientation. Under the supervision of the Southern Middle Regional Director, the Business Development Consultant (Southern Middle Region) position is responsible for:

• Conducting quality business visits to with existing businesses within the designated region.

• Meeting with and build professional relationships with stakeholders from each community and county across the designated region

• Becoming familiar with and understand the contribution that each stakeholder can contribute in efforts to encourage a company to expand their Tennessee location

• Meeting with and build professional relationships with partners from various other state departments, regional agencies, federal agencies, etc. that contribute to economic development efforts within the designated region

• Becoming familiar with and understand the contribution that each partner can contribute in efforts to encourage a company to expand their Tennessee location

• Monitoring companies who have been the recipient of a FastTrack grant within 3 years of the grant being executed.

• Working with the FastTrack team in efforts to execute a grant within one year of the company committing to create jobs in Tennessee

• Be familiar with available buildings and greenfield sites across the designated region.

• Professionally and positively represent the State of Tennessee in front of business executives, business leaders, elected officials and stakeholders.

• Providing support to TNECD Directors of Business Development

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree (preferably a degree in Business Administration) Position Requirements:

• Highly motivated leader with a passion for business recruitment and project management.

• Candidates must be self-starters, have experience managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced and high intensity environment with important deadlines, possess exceptionally strong communication skills, and work with diverse stakeholders, including company executives and local government leaders. Strong mathematical, analytical, research, presentation and written/oral communication skills are essential.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
