Director of Regional Planning

Objective: The Director of Regional Planning plays a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and managing plans and strategies to enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and safety of infrastructure systems in the region with a heavy emphasis on transportation. Thus, contributing to the development of a vibrant and well-connected region that supports economic growth and improved quality of life for residents.

Functions & Duties:

• Develop short-term and long-term plans that align with regional growth goals, economic development, and sustainability objectives. • Conduct thorough research and analysis to identify transportation, housing, and infrastructure trends, challenges, and opportunities within the region.

• Collaborate with local government agencies, transit authorities, community groups, and stakeholders to gather input and ensure that regional plans reflect the needs and preferences of the region's residents.

• Assess the impact of transportation policies and projects on traffic flow, air quality, and land use.

• Facilitate public engagement activities, such as workshops and public meetings, to gather feedback and foster community involvement in planning processes.

• Develop strategies that promote the integration of various transportation modes, including public transit, cycling, walking, and ride-sharing, to create a seamless and accessible transportation system.

• Assist in identifying potential funding sources and grants for transportation projects.

West Tennessee RPO serving Lauderdale, Tipton & Fayette County:

• Facilitate quarterly West Tennessee Rural Planning Organization meetings as well as other transportation meetings upon the request of the West Tennessee rural communities.

• Represent the region and collaborate with TDOT and transportation planning connected to Blue Oval.

• Ensure communities comply with TDOT grant regulations once funds are received.

• Help the West Tennessee rural communities with state routes' current and future transportation projects

• Assist communities with TDOT grant applications as needed

• Ensure all deadlines are met with TDOT grant reporting

Qualifications & Skills:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
• Proficiency in GIS and transportation modeling software.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Knowledge of urban development, land use planning, and environmental considerations.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
