Objective: Through the power of planning, this position will positively impact the economic vitality and quality of life in the district; shaping the future of our community and creating an environment conducive to sustainable growth and prosperity.
Functions & Duties:
• Leverage relationships, research, data, and analysis to identify land use planning opportunities that blend transportation, housing, and infrastructure trends, challenges, and opportunities within the region.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to foster strong partnerships, solicit input, and align economic development efforts with broader community goals to move catalytic regional projects forward.
• Manage implementation of MDD’s internal planning grants such as SS4A, BRAG, and others.
• Develop and implement the MidSouth’s Regional CEDS (comprehensive economic development strategy for the region) aligned with the goals and objectives of the development district, ensuring sustainable economic growth and vitality.
• Prioritize, narrow, and operationalize recommendations from existing economic development plans.
• Assist MDD’s community development team identifying potential projects and developing grant applications.
• Represent MDD communities with enthusiasm and provide meaningful counsel to leadership.
As MDD grows, build a department that:
• Conducts financial analysis and feasibility studies to assess economic development projects. Identify and recommend incentives, grants, and financial assistance to stimulate economic growth.
• Provides transportation planning services and manage the West Tennessee RPO serving Lauderdale, Tipton & Fayette County to support communities with state routes' current and future transportation projects.
• Collaborate with educational institutions, workforce agencies, and training providers to align workforce development initiatives with industry needs, ensuring a competitive workforce.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret economic data to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges. Prepare regular reports and presentations on economic indicators, business activity, and the impact of initiatives.
• Stay abreast of local, regional, and national community and economic development policies, regulations, and legislation. Work in conjunction with the public affairs department to advocate for policies that support economic growth and development within the district.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Bachelors or Masters in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Public Administration, or related field.
• Proven experience in project management with a record of successful work in local or state government.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Knowledge of urban and rural development, land use planning, and environmental considerations.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
